Meet the Maven Team

Our team of experienced professionals at Maven Recovery Centers shares a passion for guiding individuals and families toward a brighter future. With expertise and compassion, we are here for you every step of the way.

Dr. Peter Scheid

Dr. Scheid is a board certified family physician and addiction medicine specialist. He obtained his medical degree at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan followed by a residency in Family Medicine at the University of California, San Diego. He also completed a Fellowship in Addiction Medicine at Loma Linda University Medical Center, during which he trained at the Betty Ford Center in Rancho Mirage, CA, Loma Linda’s Behavioral Medicine Center, and at the Kaiser Permanente Chemical Dependency Recovery Program in Fontana, California. He believes that recovery is possible for every person struggling with chemical dependency, and that recovery encompasses much more than abstinence from mind-altering substances. In addition to providing medical detoxification and ongoing care for those in recovery, he is interested in the application of meditation, physical activity, and nutrition in preventing relapse and supporting ongoing recovery.

Dr. Araz Tawfique

Dr. Araz Tawfique, M.D. is an award-winning, Board Certified psychiatrist in La Jolla, CA with fifteen years of experience working with people with diverse needs. He pursued his true passion for psychiatry and completed his psychiatric residency training at the University of Reno, Las Vegas. A San Diego native, he returned to Southern California to receive additional training in mental health and start his private practice. His specialties are psychiatry and psychotherapy which are techniques that facilitate a better understanding of thoughts, feelings, and motivations. His approach explores the interplay of biology, psychology, and sociology in shaping individuals and their relationships.

Brett Hand

Brett Hand feels his calling is to help others struggling with various life challenges including drug and alcohol addiction. During his time working in treatment he has had numerous roles, including client, Intern, and a house manager at a sober living, to office manager, and operations Director. He has also completed additional education to obtain a CADC1 certification. He loves making a difference in the lives of those he serves and goes above and beyond to ensure that everyone has a positive experience and has the best support to live a life free of drugs and alcohol.

Alexandra Truman

As the clinical director, Alexandra Truman brings a wealth of experience and expertise in the field of addiction recovery. She has dedicated her career to helping individuals overcome substance abuse and regain control of their lives. Alexandra’s education and training have equipped her with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide effective, evidence-based treatment to clients. She works closely with clients, their families, and the treatment team to ensure that each client receives individualized care that meets their unique needs and goals. Alexandra loves to spend time with her husband and son, enjoys the Southern California lifestyle, and considers herself a foodie who loves exploring new restaurants.

LaQuicha Westervelt-House

LaQuicha Westervelt-House, PMHNP-BC, FNP-C, is a compassionate and experienced Nurse Practitioner, double-board certified as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and Family Nurse Practitioner with experience working with patients struggling with substance use and mental health disorders. My experience in this area has allowed me to provide comprehensive care encompassing assessment, diagnosis, and the development of individualized treatment plans. Employing a holistic approach, I consider the physical aspects of addiction and the mental and emotional components. This has involved collaborating with patients on harm reduction strategies, medication-assisted treatment, counseling, and connecting them with support networks. It’s been a rewarding journey, as I’ve witnessed the transformation and resilience of individuals on their path to recovery, all while promoting mental health and self-care. LaQuicha’s expertise shines through with her commitment to serving underserved communities such as the LGBTQ+ community affected by substance use disorder. Trustworthy, knowledgeable, and empathetic, LaQuicha brings a unique healthcare perspective rooted in compassion and understanding

Daniel Duclos

Daniel is passionate about helping those battling addiction and mental health to find a happy, healthy, and more fulfilling life. With extensive experience working in the addiction treatment field, he has been trained in a vast range of treatment modalities. He loves engaging with clients daily and goes out of his way to be interactive and accessible to all clients. He enjoys leading groups weekly to build his relationship and rapport with those struggling with addiction as he once did. He loves the San Diego lifestyle and has many hobbies such as Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, surfing, and rock climbing.

Lucas Stetson

Lucas has worked in the treatment industry beginning in 2015 and obtained certification through CCAPP with a CADC-II in 2019. Being in recovery himself, Lucas is passionate about helping patients achieve the same opportunity he had on their journey to recovery. In his free time, Lucas enjoys being outdoors, spending time with his family, and is a big video game fanatic.

Richard F. Jeldy

Rick has worked in the field of substance use disorder treatment in various capacities since 2014. Rick’s favorite part of the job is meeting each client where they are, and identifying unique ways in which each individual can recover, using evidenced-based practices. Outside of work Rick enjoys spending time with his wife and children, watching films, and discussing music.

Shane Brunton

Shane has been participating in drug and alcohol treatment and recovery for over a decade, and has a passion for assisting people as they work through areas of life similar to the ones that he has struggled with. He believes treatment in early recovery creates a strong foundation that nurtures a rich and fulfilled life. He also enjoys surfing, watching movies, and reading books in his downtime.

William Reynolds

Results oriented personable professional with 20 year’s experience in the recovery field. I take my profession very seriously. I believe my hard work and zeal in caring for others will take me far in this profession I truly love. I’ve learned the art of time management keeping a calm voice and spirit in stressful situations. I obtained my certification back in 2013 and presently hold (CADCII, ICADC) Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor II and Internationally Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor certifications. I lost a brother to addiction, since then I have made a commitment to myself and the rest of my family to always do all I can to help others from having to experience the pain and suffering we have had to endure. There is no better feeling in the world than getting a family’s loved one safely into a treatment program. To see the affected person and family heal from the disease of alcoholism and/or drug addiction, is priceless.
